Your feet are the foundation for your entire body when you stand, walk, run, participate in sports or even drive to work. They continually endure high forces from your body and the ground, which can result in dysfunctional foot biomechanics. This often leads to pain in the feet, ankles, knees, hips, back and even neck.
Custom made foot orthotics are beneficial in the prevention and treatment of a variety of foot, knee and back disorders, and allow you to keep up your active lifestyle. There are various types of orthotics available to ensure they fit into your footwear, including casual, dress, sport and accommodative orthotics.
Here at First Markham Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, we offer custom-made foot orthotics using plaster casting. This is the most accurate method of capturing the anatomy and contours of the plantar aspect of the feet while in a non-weight bearing position. A biomechanical and gait assessment are also performed to determine the best type of orthotic for each individual.
